The Ottawa Volunteer Fire Department operates out of three fire stations situated within the Village of Ottawa.  They provide fire protection to the Village of Ottawa, half of Ottawa Township, and four square miles of Pleasant Township.  The staff of 40 officers and firefighters, under the direction of Fire Chief Nathan Cram, is trained in fire suppression, fire prevention, inspection, technical rescue, hazardous materials operations, and medical first response.  Fire Department responds to over 200 runs each year.

    The Fire Department has an ISO rating of four and operates eight pieces of fire apparatus.  The Ottawa Volunteer Fire Department also runs and mans the county owned Heavy Rescue that serves the eastern half of Putnam County.
